Log Inspired Rustic Hybrid Homes

Minnesota rustic hybrid home

Log home with stone front

For those of you that want to achieve the rustic look with either less or no exterior log we offer our log inspired line of rustic homes. These hybrid homes achieve the rustic look by blending exterior materials such as cedar siding or shakes, stone and possibly some round or square logs as accent. Adding a log framed porch can really add to the look of the home. Square log and posts can give your rustic home the timber frame look. Cement board board is another option for exterior siding. It has a rustic look with very little maintenance.

With a hybrid style home the options are endless for getting that rustic look that you are after. The homes in these photos are all conventionally framed homes with a mix of wood and maintenance free siding on the exteriors. The cedar shakes in the upper gables add a great accent to the exterior look.  This hybrid style of building opens up many options for interior finishing. Those options range from tongue and groove knotty pine, interior log and drywall for some color contrasts.  Round or square log posts and beams are usually found in the interior to some extent. It is really up to you to decide the look you are after and how much interior log you want.  Real stone isn't only an exterior finish. Many go beyond the fireplace chase for interior stone. It can be used on the backs of kitchen island and bars, as a wainscot on walls and even in walk in showers. Stone is awesome inside or outside! These log inspired rustic homes are great for residential areas where log homes don’t exactly “fit in” and may not be allowed by local covenants and restrictions.

These log accented hybrid homes have become quite popular in the last few years. They are a great "middle of the road' rustic home for those that want less or no log but still want to have the cabin feel. Also, there is less exterior maintenance to be done on this style of home. Another benefit is they also usually cost a bit less to build than a log home. Take a look at some of these homes in the photos on this page and maybe you'll find the home style that is right for you and your lot.
